The IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) is a tracking tool published by IBM. It is designed for IBM software customers to report their consumption of IBM software licensed under the Processor Value Unit (PVU) metric.
ILMT is one of the compulsory requirements for IBM customers who want to benefit from IBM’s sub-capacity (virtualization capacity) licensing terms.
Unless certain exception criteria are met, IBM software customers are subject to license all IBM PVU software under IBM’s full capacity terms, without ILMT deployment. If the situation is identified in an IBM license review (audit), this means that the IBM customer can be exposed to license liability typically 8-12 times higher than their existing spend on IBM PVU software.
In our experience of assisting enterprise customers to manage IBM license reviews, sub-capacity violation caused by absence or misconfiguration of ILMT is the most common compliance violation.
We perform a comprehensive health check of your ILMT status against your compliance reporting obligations. We remediate a full spectrum of issues, from scan failures to incorrect software classification (bundling).
We implement ILMT or upgrade from version 7 using best practices published by IBM. We can also integrate ILMT data to popular SAM solutions such as SNOW or Aspera via API or data ETL.
Our team can manage the ILMT instances deployed on-premise within your organization, even if your organisation has complex network segmentations across multiple regions and locations or complex security protocols.
You can easily report your IBM PVU software to an instance of ILMT hosted on our cloud infrastructure, saving you time spent on maintenance and reducing the risk of inaccurate reporting.
I’m a Manager in FisherITS and my main focus is our portfolio of IBM licensing related services. I’m passionate about helping our clients to understand and improve their complex IBM licensing estate and gain confidence in navigating through the IBM universe. I started my career as a member of IBM SAM team where I experienced all parts of everyday SAM operations while taking care of mid-sized and large customers. In the recent years my focus has turned to assisting clients that are interested in internal audit to ensure their IBM estate is correctly and optimally licensed, and defending customers going through an IBM audit. I am also leading the FisherITS's portfolio of services around the IBM License Metric Tool to help customers to avoid sub-capacity non-compliant surprises.Get in touch
